Travelling, whether on holiday or for work, disrupts our usual schedule of eating and exercising, and can make us gain weight. If you are a frequent traveller, taking care of your health while travelling is essential.

Here are a few tips that will keep you healthy, and will help you avoid weight gain while travelling.

1. Avoid Overeating When Travelling.

We often tend to overeat when travelling. Resist the temptation to eat everything that’s on your breakfast buffet spread. Instead choose one or two things. Also the portions in the restaurants are big, take as much as you want, and get the remaining food packed so you can have it later. Go easy on the deep fried and fatty snacks that we often have as part of our holiday. Have fruits and salads.

2. Avoid Missing Your Main Meals.

When you skip meals, you tend to feel extra hungry and may end up having bigger quantities of indulgent foods like pastries, ice-creams etc. Always keep some healthy snack with you, like a sandwich, fruit or some nuts, so there is food handy, whenever you are hungry. As travelling and sightseeing often makes us miss our regular food timings and we tend to overeat later.

3. Stay Hydrated.

We often miss having enough water when travelling. This can lead to gas, bloating, and also overeating as our body often confuses thirst for hunger. So stay hydrated even when you are travelling. Start your day with 2 to 3 glasses of water. Avoid excess aerated drinks and sweetened beverages. Have them in moderation. Opt for water, coconut water or lemonade instead.

4. Make Healthy Food Choices.

Share your desserts. When eating outside, keep at least one to two meals light. Have fruits as snacks, Or carry some Makhaana or foxnut with you as a healthy in between snack. Include probiotics as they help you with digestion.

5. Stay Active.

Go for a brisk walk, or use the hotel gym to do a small workout. You can even try doing some adventure sport, or take the stairs instead of the lift. As far as possible, stay active.
