Eat These 5 Foods To Fight Air Pollution.

During severe air pollution, the air contains harmful gases, dust, smoke and liquid particles, also called particulate matter which can enter our body and cause damage to our lungs and irritate our eyes.

Here are some ways to keep yourself safe during air pollution:

  • Exercise indoors.
  • Avoid going out unnecessarily.
  • Take public transport.
  • Wear a mask when going out.
  • Vaccum your house or do a deep cleaning to keep your surrounding clean and germ free.
  • Take steam.
  • Avoid unnecessary construction activities as they cause dust pollution.

Air pollution affects everyone, but for children, elderly and for those who are unwell or have breathing problems, it can be hazardous, because the pollutants damage our lungs.

Apart from taking the precautions mentioned above, include these 5 foods in your diet to fight free radical damage caused due to air pollution.

1. Spinach.

Rich in Lutein and Zeaxanthin, Spinach helps reverse free radical damage. Have spinach or any leafy greens at least 3 days in a week. you can add them to your daals, smoothies, soups and sabzi.

2. Pomegranate.

Rich in iron and also antioxidants, pomegranates improve your haemoglobin count. They have antimicrobial properties and they fight inflammations.

3. Turmeric.

Curcumin in turmeric is a very powerful antioxidant which may even reverse the damage caused to the lungs. A glass of golden milk or haldi doodh has healing properties and also helps reduce stress.

4. Tulsi Ginger Tea.

Tulsi and ginger’s medicinal properties are mentioned even in ayurveda. Ginger has very powerful anti-oxidants like Gingerol and Shogaol which reduce inflammations and soothe sore throat.

5. Guava.

Guava is a very rich source of vitamin C. It helps boost immunity and protects us against viruses and flu.

Along with these foods, also stay hydrated. Have 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Water flushes out toxins, prevents dryness and eases the symptoms of sore throat.
